Scrub cap project

Going to finish up my scrub cap today. I get to scrub in on a surgery Thursday and I'm so excited!!!!!! I have been knitting on my niece's year overdue baby blanket now that cooler weather has arrived. Hasn't everyone felt a resurgence of excitement about their projects and started planning the gift list?! I went to the fall festival at the folk school last weekend and felt bad that I still don't have enough crafts prepared for a table rental. :( Ah well. I'll get there someday if it is meant to be.

The Pioneer Woman

I want to be Ree Drummond. With one exception. I would want to have ranch time with the hubbie and kids! One more exception, I'm not fancy. No fancy billowing shirts for this girl. I would dress much like her DH and kids do b/c I'd be out on the ranch with them! Oh, one more exception, I try not to use as much butter as she does. DH's stomach couldn't handle it, nor could his cholesterol. I've as much as halved the butter in one of her recipes and been fine! Otherwise, I'd say she's my role model! :) I want to live like they do. How awesome is that life I ask you?!?!?!?

Love Saturdays!

Not only is my new favorite cooking show, The Pioneer Woman, on, but there is plenty of time to play ball and run races! And make myself a new small tote to carry knitting and various other things in. Hope DH isn't too late, supper will be yummy!!! Straight off of http://www.thepioneerwoman.com Can't wait!

News and updates

So, we've been just plain living lately, with minimal craft time for us.  We are trying to introduce some crafts to our girls, but that is hit and miss.  There are so many summer activities and DH and I are on opposite shifts, with me working traditional M-F and he working Th-M. The girls, unfortunately, have turned their noses up at yarn crafting.  Boo hoo.  Ah well, maybe later in life they'll come to appreciate it, like I did after I had kids.  They are enjoying art and woodworking, and school, so that's awesome!  They all are on honor roll and got very good grades for 3rd grade; we are so proud!  Anyhow, I look to be posting some new items for sale in our BlackBeanCrafts shop on Etsy.  Below I have attached a couple of pieces that DH finished to sell in the shop where he works, at a whitewater rafting company/camping/adventure camp.  There are several other styles, with whitewater raft groups, kayakers, and deer and horses.  Regret...
Big storms blowing through here. All is well. Thank God for that.

Concerns

So, I went to a birthday party on Saturday for our friends' daughters, twins.  I had a lady that I don't know tell me she was taking a picture of my children because they are just so neat (or some such thing).  I was so stunned by her moxie that I couldn't say anything at the time.  I looked at my husband and declared that I really hate when someone thinks they can just do that.  I mean why?  I ALMOST told her then I'd like to take a picture of her kids, just to see what the response would be.  I didn't.  I regretted my lack of response, mentioned it to a friend at work, who came up with a phrase I intend to use next time: "I'd rather you not" or "I'd rather you didn't.  I'm just funny about their privacy."  I like that.  I'll try to use that.  Now I'm having to ask my friend to give me the lady's information to contact her.  But, she has taken it on and told me that she would talk to her since her daughter is in the s...

New yarn and bad news

I got 2 skeins of yarn at a LYS (in a neighboring town) that I hadn't been to before today. Very exciting! I talked to the owner and a patron who works in a yarn shop about 1.5 hours from us. We talked about Stitches South coming up in April in Atlanta. I had heard of it from the NeverNotKnitting podcast recently- she attended Stitches West. I am thinking about trying to attend but that coincides with the kids' spring break and the in-laws' visit. Maybe I can get MIL to come with??? She crickets, so I'm hoping maybe I can entice her to get some yarn before her 3 month vaca in Alaska- she'll need some to take with her, right?!!? I'm hoping anyway... The bad news was the lady from whose farm the alpaca yarn came from just passed away suddenly about 6 months ago. I had known her when I was considering starting to raise alpacas and visited her farm. She and I hit it off and realized that we shared our birth date! Well, she used to bring a couple of her al...

Just another day at the office honey!

Encountered a cat that had enough of me holding it for bloodwork and shaving. I actually won this one, believe it or not!! I won meaning I kept control and all of the intended procedures were completed. That isn't always the case! So, afterwards I scrubbed with chlorhex surgical scrub, then my boss applied a "magic" homeopathic wound potion. It STUNG!! I would have rathered to just put straight alcohol on it. Come to find out it contains mirrh, goldenseal, CAYENNE PEPPER AND ALCOHOL!!!!!! Imagine how that hurt! But, I am trying to avoid a Bartonella infection (cat scratch fever). I've had it once before. Not bad, but I'd rather not do it over. Oh, the life we love. :)

Today

Got one DD in the beginning stages of strep throat. Looking at DH layoff next week so I'll be trying to manage school and 2 jobs. Praying I keep the faith that God will provide and keep my stress levels to a minimum. *Update* I guess I forgot to mention that my "school" is Penn Foster.  I already have a BSME and now I'm pursuing another degree, an Associate of Science this time, in Veterinary Technology.  I am seeking to become a licensed veterinary technician, or LVT (in some states RVT or CVT).  I'll be happy to answer questions about my vet tech program to the extent that I can.  I have heard good and bad about the program, so I hope to be a part of the good experiences.  Wish me luck and pray for my success!  :)

Oh 2exciting!

What I was trying to say was: so my Verizon contract is up later this year and I'm debating Blackberry vs. iPhone.  I think I like the fact that the Blackberry has a keyboard and seem to have trouble with the accuracy and speed of a touchscreen for text/email.  BUT, love the iPhone geekery!!!  Come on, it appeals to the engineer side of my brain....
