New yarn and bad news
I got 2 skeins of yarn at a LYS (in a neighboring town) that I hadn't been to before today. Very exciting! I talked to the owner and a patron who works in a yarn shop about 1.5 hours from us. We talked about Stitches South coming up in April in Atlanta. I had heard of it from the NeverNotKnitting podcast recently- she attended Stitches West. I am thinking about trying to attend but that coincides with the kids' spring break and the in-laws' visit. Maybe I can get MIL to come with??? She crickets, so I'm hoping maybe I can entice her to get some yarn before her 3 month vaca in Alaska- she'll need some to take with her, right?!!? I'm hoping anyway...
The bad news was the lady from whose farm the alpaca yarn came from just passed away suddenly about 6 months ago. I had known her when I was considering starting to raise alpacas and visited her farm. She and I hit it off and realized that we shared our birth date! Well, she used to bring a couple of her alpacas to a craft festival that we like to attend, but we didn't get to go this year and I just haven't been in touch for a while, unfortunately. She was a lovely lady who loved her life and her critters and her family. She was kind and funny and generous. She died of a heart attack while out caring for the alpacas. The shop owner told me she had been out loving on the alpacas. She loved to do that. Every year I think about her around our birthday and I'm sure I'll continue to remember her fondly. I mean to email her husband our condolences and prayers. I think she is in a better place, however, so I'll find comfort there. I only hope her husband does also.
